INSURANCE FOR SMOG CHECK STATIONS

As the owner of a smog check station, you are practically guaranteed to have business year round in any city that has vehicle emissions, or smog check requirements. You may have gone to a lot of effort to be approved as an official smog check station for your city, so be sure to protect your company fully by carrying the right types of business insurance.

General Liability

General liability insurance is designed to protect both you and your customers. When accidents happen, your customers may sue your company for injuries or damages. General liability can pay for these accidents for you so that your company does not suffer financial hardships each time an accident or unexpected event arises.

General Liability Insurance Includes:
  • Premises Liability - When customers are on location at your smog check facility, there is a small risk that they will receive a bodily injury or that they may damage their personal property. If a customer is injured on site, your premises liability insurance will pay the resulting medical care bills. Likewise if a customer’s property is damaged, this part of your general liability insurance will pay for the repairs.
  • Products Liability - If you sell products at your smog check facility, those products may later be found to be problematic or hazardous. If a customer claims the products you sold them caused them harm physically, or damaged their property in some way, they may file a lawsuit against your company. The products liability portion of your insurance coverage will pay to defend you against these claims. It also pays for the cost of repairs, or medical bills if the person was injured.
  • Completed Operations - If one of the employees makes a mistake at your smog check business, your company may be held liable after the fact. Once the services are rendered and operations are completed, your customer leaves your location. If they later found that a mistake in your services caused them harm or cost them money, you may be sued. Completed operations insurance protections you from these events.

Business Owners Policy

General liability insurance is included as part of another type of coverage known as a BOP, or business owners policy. A BOP provides you with protection from direct asset losses in your company. It provides protection for both intangible and tangible business assets, and you can customize the coverage to meet your company's needs. Some of the coverage options include:

  • Buildings and Contents
  • Business Income and Extra Expense
  • Electronic Data
  • Newly Acquired or Constructed Buildings
